Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1
Colombo to Anuradhapura

Begin your journey through Sri Lanka’s ancient civilization with a scenic drive from Colombo to Anuradhapura. Visit the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi and explore the magnificent Ruwanwelisaya Stupa, followed by a visit to the historic Isurumuniya Temple and Thuparamaya Dagoba. End the day with a relaxing evening city tour, discovering the ancient capital’s cultural and historical charm.

Day 2
Anuradhapura

Spend a full day exploring Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka’s first ancient kingdom, and discover its remarkable archaeological and religious heritage. Visit the impressive Jetavanaramaya and explore the historic Abhayagiri Monastery before admiring the peaceful Samadhi Buddha Statue and the ancient Twin Ponds (Kuttam Pokuna). End the day with a visit to the sacred Mihintale Mountain, where you can enjoy a beautiful sunset surrounded by ancient temples and serene landscapes.

Day 3
Anuradhapura to Polonnaruwa

Travel from Anuradhapura to Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka’s medieval capital, and discover the remarkable heritage of its ancient kingdom. Explore the Ancient City of Polonnaruwa and the Royal Palace Complex before visiting the magnificent Gal Vihara Rock Temple with its impressive Buddha statues. Enjoy scenic views of Parakrama Samudraya and complete the day with a visit to the Archaeological Museum.

Day 4
Polonnaruwa to Minneriya

Continue from Polonnaruwa to Minneriya and experience Sri Lanka’s fascinating heritage and wildlife. Visit the historic Medirigiriya Vatadage before heading to Minneriya National Park for an exciting jeep safari through its diverse landscapes. During the seasonal Elephant Gathering, you may witness large herds of elephants gathering around the park’s reservoir. End the day with beautiful sunset photography surrounded by the natural scenery.

Day 5
Minneriya to Mahiyanganaya

Travel from Minneriya to Mahiyanganaya and journey into Sri Lanka’s peaceful eastern cultural region. Visit the historic Mahiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya and explore the scenic Sorabora Wewa, surrounded by tranquil natural landscapes. Continue through peaceful rural villages to experience the local way of life before relaxing by the lakeside in the evening.

Day 6
Mahiyanganaya & Dambana

Spend the day exploring Mahiyanganaya and Dambana while learning about the traditions and heritage of Sri Lanka’s indigenous Vedda community. Visit the Dambana Vedda Village and, with local guidance, discover traditional customs, hunting methods, and the community’s close connection with the forest. Enjoy a nature walk through the surrounding woodland and, subject to availability, experience a traditional cultural performance.

Day 7
ahiyanganaya to Kandy

Travel from Mahiyanganaya to Kandy along scenic mountain roads, enjoying breathtaking views of Sri Lanka’s lush hill country. Upon arrival, visit the revered Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and take a relaxing walk around Kandy Lake. Continue to the impressive Bahirawakanda Buddha Statue for panoramic views of the city before ending the day with a vibrant Kandyan Cultural Dance Show.

Day 8
Kandy to Nuwara Eliya

Travel from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya and discover the cool climate, misty mountains, and lush tea plantations of Sri Lanka’s hill country. Visit the beautiful Ramboda Waterfall before exploring a scenic tea plantation and traditional tea factory to learn about the island’s famous tea production. Upon reaching Nuwara Eliya, relax by Gregory Lake and explore the peaceful surroundings of Victoria Park.

Day 9
Nuwara Eliya to Ella

Travel from Nuwara Eliya to Ella on one of Sri Lanka’s most scenic railway journeys, passing through misty mountains, lush tea plantations, and breathtaking valleys. Upon arrival in Ella, visit the iconic Nine Arches Bridge and hike to Little Adam’s Peak for panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. End the day by exploring Ella town, enjoying its relaxed atmosphere, local cafés, and charming streets.

Day 10
Ella

Spend the day exploring the natural beauty of Ella with a scenic hike to Ella Rock, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Visit the spectacular Ravana Falls before enjoying the optional thrill of the Flying Ravana Zipline. End the day with café hopping and local shopping, discovering Ella’s relaxed atmosphere and unique souvenirs.

Day 11
Ella to Udawalawe

Travel from Ella to Udawalawe and head towards one of Sri Lanka’s premier wildlife destinations. Visit the Elephant Transit Home to learn about elephant rehabilitation and conservation before enjoying an exciting evening jeep safari through Udawalawe National Park. Keep your camera ready for wildlife photography as you may encounter elephants, deer, birds, and other native species in their natural habitat.

Day 12
Udawalawe to Colombo

Conclude your memorable Sri Lankan adventure with a relaxing breakfast in Udawalawe before beginning the scenic drive back to Colombo. Enjoy the beautiful countryside landscapes along the way, with time for optional shopping or a final city sightseeing experience, depending on your schedule. Continue to Colombo and complete your journey with a convenient airport transfer.
